  • Great post BG - it's quite a famous incident, and I really want to see this film. My grandfather fought in WWI and I wrote a song about it called 1919. The war to end wars wasn't.

    Yeah, that was another gut-wrenching part of the whole thing. You *should* see it. For all it's gut-wrenchiness, it was really good. Well made.
  • Yes, good post. I didn't know this incident had been made into a movie. I had read somewhere that this sort of informal truce was never allowed again, as it obviously affected the troops' willingness to shoot at one another.
  • And so much of the "Great War" basically devolved into waves of men willing to walk into almost certain death or grievous injury, from trench to trench, for almost no good strategic reason - this went on for years. So a small bit of peace like this one was a real danger to the powers...
