Firstly, I'd like to say that this is a very well-written piece.
Secondly, and I believe that Mother Teresa's loss of faith makes her all the more heroic for her deeds. Speaking as someone who lost his faith many years ago (and doesn't miss it one iota!) to give up one's life in the service of others as its own reward serves as an example to all of us.

Diana's life was supposedly a fairy tale but actually it was a Faustian bargain, and she was cheated. As part of the media that sold magazines with Diana's picture on the covers, I feel less guilty about Mother Teresa, whose doubts only make me admire her more. Here's what I wrote about each of them on my blog:
Viscount, thanks for the note. Mother Teresa does continue to be an inspiration in many ways, even moreso now that we know how very heavy was her burden.
Robert, I'm glad you bring up the magazine angle. I partook myself. I NEVER buy magazines on the stand, and only subcribe to the New Yorker and the Atlantic, and yet I find that I bought the Time commemorative issue from mid Sept. 1997, which covers both Diana and Mother Teresa.
