Yes, he's great! Saw him live just a few weeks ago and he was just as Tom describes. He did this song and sounded like a full band when it was him and his guitar. Just amazing.

Thompson's a great lyricist - goes along with his keen ear and incredible guitar-playing. He's pretty fearless in what he says, and his interests are wide. Amazing he isn't more popular than he is, given how prolific he's been. Oh, and did I mention he's wonderful live?

I never listened to him before but wow those lyrics are incredible. Its so hard to do topical stuff without sounding phoney or like you are trying to hard. Really amazing.

Great post - listened to this track the other day, and it's quite beautiful. Great to see Thompson's occasional topicality.

Joins the canon of anti-war songs - Al Bowlly, Yankee Go Home etc.

BTW, I'm stunned by the headshot on this page. Is it just me or does RT bear a strong resemblence to one Arthur Conan Doyle?
