The Late, Great Mitch Hedberg

Started by tomwatson · 10 months ago

I loved the comedy of Mitch Hedberg. He was sort of like a hip version of Steven Wright. His jokes were often obtuse and esoteric. Or they were stupid, depending on your perspective. At times his delivery was unprofessional – heâ% ... Continue reading »

  • One of my all-time favorites-practically an OOC icon: "I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and hook up with them later."
  • Good line. How about (paraphrased) - I went to the doctor. All he did was bite my neck and suck my blood. I'm never going back to Dr. Acula.
  • How about this one about getting cheated buying a slice of pizza: "If the pizza was a pie chart for what people would do if the found a million dollars then I got the 'donate it to charity' slice. Excuse me, I would like to exchange this for the 'keep it'."
  • Somehow, I had never heard of this guy.
Just now, I heard the clips you posted from another room, where Kathleen was listening--I thought it was a young Steve Martin. When he got to the turkey joke ("Someone has to tell the turkeys, 'hey man, be yourselves'") I laughed out loud, so I went to join her. By the time we got through the Letterman clip, I was laughing so hard I was crying.
    thanks, Viscount
  • Manny and I both loved watching this guy, but he laughed harder and louder. That doesn't happen often, so wait. He's going to come to think up something great. The idea this guy "Lost to drugs and alcohol and stage fright" really hit home the idea that comedy comes from real hurt.
Sometimes it's hard for me to get past that. A nervous person myself, I cringe in empathy at anxious comedians. Still, that turkey joke made me forget the pain, and even his too-close-to-home mantra. The one I use--not on stage; I'd never go there--but just silently in rooms with other people: "See if you can pass for likable."
  • The Mitch All Together package has that entire first performance on DVD and a CD of a different performance. I highly recommend it.

I should make note that the DVD has both the Aired version and the unedited version. Believe it or not the former is the better of the two.
  • No doubt, Mitch's comedy is great and enjoyable. I myself recommend the Mitch All Together package.
  • he really enjoys his life and makes some people laugh.
  • I really like this guy's sense of humor.
