Making a review with this actor is the proof that you are really a fan of him.. I didn't know him and I can't remember if I watched a movie of him but as i read your post, I will agree with you that he is really a good actor.. By the way, Good review..

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

Kev:

You are correct - for the 1st half of the movie we don't see Bogey. Still, I love that flick and stand by comments.

I recently saw "Key Largo" and "To Have and Have Not" back to back. It had been some time for both and I saw things that I hadn't seen before. I especially liked Hoagy Carmichael in "To Have..." - he was very cool. On my copy, there was a Warner Brothers short that had animated parodies of scenes from the movie - fun stuff.

Thanks for the tip on "Action in the North Atlantic." Never saw that one, but I just added it to my rental queue on NetFlix.

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

Dark Passage is deservedly overlooked. Sorry, but someone had to say it. Bogey isn't even really in the movie for the longest time.

Personal favorites of mine include Key Largo and To Have and Have Not both of which I've seen so many times I feel I was in them.

I recently caught Action In the North Atlantic for the first time since I was a kid and found it gripping. Bogey goes about half-and-half on screen time with Raymond Massey in a tale of the WWII Merchant Marine. It's got a big Warner's cast (Alan Hale, etc) and is a great way to spend two hours.

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

City For Conquest was my dad's fave film. Perhaps JC never got babes as hot as Bogey, but Bogey couldn't sing and dance and Bogey was always Bogey- JC had greater range. JC could have done all of Bogey's roles, but Bogey in White Heat? More like Lukewarm Tan. C'mon!

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

Oh, you mean after he asked for his Ma's permission? ;^)

I love Cagney, and you picked one of my all-time favorite flicks. he get's the better of Bogey in "The Roaring Twenties" as well.

Still, he ain't Rick, and he never got a girl as hot as "Baby."

You just reminded me to put "City for Conquest" at the top of my rental queue. I haven't seen it in years, and my wife has never seen it at all.

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

Great post, Viscount. I'm not one who's really drawn to old movies. Don't know why. Every time I watch Bogart, I watch him and think of all the things I've heard about him over the years and I can't stop my mind from analyzing. I have to lay back and stop that. This post and reading The Siren are really making me reconsider my next selection at the video store. Or Netflix. If I can get my act together and sign up.

Re: The Fundamental Rules Apply

Sorry, but Jimmy Cagney could kick Bogey's ass from here to eternity.

And he did in Angels W Dirty Faces
