Growing up around NY area, the mob was a presence - you just knew. Certain restaurants, social clubs, storefronts etc. And it was indeed a lifestyle - clothes, cars, jewelry, music. I grew up in Yonkers, and I just knew (plus there'd be the occasional hit).

Re: Sopranos Watch: Tony, Meet Danny Ocean

Tom, thanks for the link. I've never read anything about Chase talking about his own experiences or awareness of the mob in Jersey or New York. Maybe after the series.

Re: Sopranos Watch: Tony, Meet Danny Ocean

Good mention of the Westchester Premiere Theater here, in a 1995 column by our old buddy Jerry Capeci:

http://www.ganglandnews.com/column429.htm

Re: Sopranos Watch: Tony, Meet Danny Ocean

That's a classic picture - I believe it was taken at the old Westchester Premiere Theater, where I saw Chuck Berry perform back in the day. Reputedly mob-owned, of course.

Rickles had a great story the other night on Jon Stewart about playing for mobsters at the Copa - how his mother made the made men put their guns on the table. Hilarious.

I think Chase did a cool job exploring the Oceans syndrome with the exploits and ambitions of Christopher Moltisanti (may god rest his soul).
