Tom Wilkenson was amazing too and his dialogue was great. btw there were other references. when michael o'keef tells clooney to 'saddle up' and also when tom wilkenson becomes defensive in his last scene with George Clooney, he says something like, ' well, bring on those horses and God bless.' Anyway, I was googling for realms and conquests myself. sorry it doesn't exist but it sounded like an old stephen king novel i read in 1980

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Nice Spot! I've been watch the film for a few months now. Must have seen it 10 times and never made the connection. Usually I'm pretty good with that kind of stuff. I think its a great movie and MC exasperation is perhaps a timely reflection of people trapped by financial challenges. Tom Wilkinson's performance is spellbinding and his connection to the book is an excellent example of this. I love how he goes from bumbing breadstick man to lucid attorny in a flash when he senses MC is toying with a threat of incarceration. Brilliant movie. Thanks again for the heads up.

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

I didn't pick up the part about the horses, thanks for pointing it out.

I really loved this movie, and I had a difficult time putting my finger on why. For me, it was the tone, the way things are left unsaid. I wrote a little about it on my blog: http://thingstodowhilewaiting.blogspot.com/2008...

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Man! The Hollywood distraction with awards (upon awards upon awards) may sometimes highlight performances and films that would otherwise go unnoticed, but the hype surrounding awards (who has them, who doesn't deserve them, and who is thus far overlooked) is a wildly misplaced emphasis.

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

At this point I think Clooney deserves an award for lifetime achievement!

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Clooney has not been overlooked by the Academy - he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for SYRIANNA.

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Tina, even more telling, Cary Grant, Clooney's role model, never won either. Maybe George should have aimed more for 2-time winner Spencer Tracey.

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Maybe George Clooney is doomed to be overlooked by the Academy the same way Barbara Stanwick, Henry Fonda and so many others were. He's had a string of powerful performances but no Oscar®.

Re: My One Oscar Tidbit: We Saw the Horses in Realm & Conquest, Too

Who knows when I'll see the movie, but when I do, M.A., I'll remember to look for the subtlety in the scenes and story-frames thanks to you.
