Maybe, maybe not. Pete's had a harsh relationship with his father all along, and his fatehr was contemptuous of his advertising career, as Pete tried to explain to Duck. And now Pete's not even going to get a cent from his broke father's estate. For Pete to use his father's death to further his own advertising career? Man, that is some sweet revenge.

On another front, I notice that Don no longer calls his wife "Birdie."

Duck is old school, pure business, sell the accounts, cash the checks, make the numbers.
Don isn't exactly a revolutionary himself; but he does see the art of the sale, rather than just the numbers of the sale - and there are times when he's clearly in love with the "story" of the product - or, the brand. Agencies that did "branding" were new in the 60s. The old way was to make your dough by a % of the media buy.

I think Duck came in when Roger had his heart attack, so it was possible he wasn't going to stay once Roger was back. I think Duck is supposed to be a real rainmaker---he's not on the creative side like Don, so he needs to be more cutthroat.
