newcritics: Kickin’ It Live: Beastie Boys at Summerstage

  • Tony Alva · 2 years ago
Welcome to the Newcritics fold Theo! Great inaugural post. The world indeed needs music that doesn't require one to think. Too much Bob Dylan hurts my brain. The best antidote for this is...

"I got millions and billions of rhymes to flex, I got more rhymes than Carl Sagan’s got turtlenecks…”

    'You're all mixed up
    Like pasta primevera
    Yo man,
Why'd you throw that chair at Geraldo Rivera

The funny thing is, the Beasties lyrics are all pretty darn smart and thoughtful. That's what I like about 'em..well, it's one of the things I like about 'em

"Got more rhymes than Jamaica's got mangoes.'

More importantly, Pink Floyd are not, and never will The Beastie Boys.

Great review Ted and welcome...what can I say but:

Johnny Ryall is the bum on my stoop
I gave him fifty cents to buy some soup
He knows the time with the fresh Gucci watch
He's even more over than the mayor Ed Koch
Washing windows on the Bowery at a quarter to four
'Cause he ain't gonna work on Maggie's farm no more...

Don't even start me on the 'Paul's Boutique', or maybe you should.....

As my friend Chuck pointed out, nobody - not anybody in any genre, has ever rhymed a pasta dish with a TV News Personality.

    Not once, but twice.

There the Geraldo bit I dropped above, and this one:

"I'll Be In The Paper The News With Ernie Ernesto
They'll Even Print My Recipe For Pasta With Pesto"

You can't argue with that, or as they might say - you can't front on that.

    Donald Trump Donald Tramp
    living in the Men's Shelter
    Wonder Bread bag shoes
    and singing Helter Skelter...

It occurs to me that newcritics and Johnny Ryall are closely related....

i've been playing a bit of the beastie's around the house since we went to that show jackson and josh has taken up the habit of calling out to his sisters with the memorable "hey ladies"

it pisses them off but cracks me up
