I'm so out of touch with the mainstream media, that a lot of times I don't even know that an artist I like has an album out.

Now, if you put it in front of me where you know I'm going to be - like Starbucks for an example, well then you've got a sale mister - or, uh, missus!

I guess that's what you were already saying.

Hey, marketing......like, y'know?

Re: I’ll Take a Tall, Non-Fat Joni

Wow. Even Sticky reads newcritics!

Re: I’ll Take a Tall, Non-Fat Joni

Starbucks sucks! Though I gotta admit that jingle they got for iTunes is pretty darn catchy. You know, the with one that one dude, Paul something or other. But I ain't never heard of this Joni Mitchell. I might like her though, 'less she's got one of them high-pitched annoying voices. I like Nazareth though. You oughta check those guys out. They rock. And you're right on about Steve Miller, too, man!

Re: I’ll Take a Tall, Non-Fat Joni

I guess I should have been more to the point. I have no problem finding new music. I seek it out. Artists like Joni Mitchell need to get their music in front of people who aren't as in touch as you and I, but might be pleasantly surprised when they hear it. For people who don't actively seek new music, I think the Starbucks avenue is a good one for doing that.

Re: I’ll Take a Tall, Non-Fat Joni

Where can you go to hear new music that you, a boomer with an affection for Joni Mitchell, might actually like?

Radio Paradise (an internet radio station). Seriously. Check it out.

http://www.radioparadise.com/

They're popular with young people, and play a lot of new or semi-new music, but have great respect for the past (the Beatles, Neil Young, the Clash, Nirvana, you name it). Plus, a brilliant new means for assessing true popularity.

With all due respect to Starbucks, you can do better.

Re: I’ll Take a Tall, Non-Fat Joni

No Starbucks for me, thanks.

Actually, you can get music info on boomer-type stuff from major newspapers (and their online offshoots). The coverage is not good, because they split the difference and try to cover new bands, old bands (for the old farts who still read), and better yet - from their viewpoint - new bands that remind them of old bands. But even bad coverage will let you know when the likes of Joni Mitchell and her colleagues have new albums out.
