newcritics: Finding Iris Chang

  • Kathleen Maher · 1 year ago
While I see suicide as horrific, and the result of an inner torment only the sufferer can possibly know, I often wonder at how easily people who are "excitable" and alternately "brooding" are classified as mentally ill.

We do need to pay attention to signals and take whatever possible measure we can to prevent suicide.

But what some people manage to endure amazes me. When someone else just can not go on, I can often follow the logic.

Only through proper counseling it is possible to eradicate suicide and make changes in the life of people .

Hi Kathleen, thanks for your comment. I know what you mean about how it is troubling that we tend to label people (sometimes) willy nilly as being mentally ill. Chang was diagnosed as bi-polar, though. I think you might enjoy the book. I thought of you at the party for Paula and wished you could have been there.

The story is very good but the end is slightly sad. It ends in a very tragic way.

Iris Chang is a very good character played in this. He is very close to reality.

"...and they always include an interesting and diverse group of women, good food and excellent conversation..." Good food really is the center of any event/occasion : and while reading a good book.
